The Ghost of Abraham Lincoln
Lincoln’s ghost is quite busy. He roams the rooms he stayed in while he was the president in the White House, Ford’s Theatre where he was assassinated, and in Springfield, Illinois where he was laid to rest. The train that moved his body from the White House to Springfield is also seen a lot.
On Alcatraz Island, the maximum high-security federal prison, Alcatraz, held some of the most ruthless criminals over the years before it was shut down. Now, it is only open to tours due to the many paranormal happenings that have since been reported. Different sorts of ghost stories have been reported all over the prison, but my favorite is the one involving cell 14D. A prisoner in the 1940s screamed throughout the night that a creature with glowing eyes was killing him. The next day, he was found strangled to death. Later, when doing head counts, a guard counted one too many, and claimed he saw the dead inmate standing in line with the others. Though I did watch one of those ghost shows where they visited the prison, and they found a gas leak in the cell. That explains the inmates delusions about a creature, but they couldn’t explain everything people saw.
I think everyone knows this story. Say, “Bloody Mary” three times in the mirror and a girl covered in blood appears and fucks you up. But, when researching, I found out the old tale was to walk backwards up the stairs holding a lit candle and a hand mirror in a darkened house. As they looked in the mirror, they were supposed to either see their future husband’s face or see a skull (or the face of the grim reaper). This meant they would die before they could get married.
The Picture of Freddy Jackson
Freddy Jackson was killed in a freak accident while working in the Royal Air Force, but that didn’t mean he didn’t appear in a group picture take two days later.
La Llorona or The Weeping Woman
A woman dressed in white is seen walking up and down the river crying for her children. Story goes she drowned her children in a fit of jealously, and then killed herself when she realized what she had done.
Kids of the Railroad Tracks
Close to San Juan Mission there is a set of railroad tracks. People say in the 1930s or the 1940s there was an accident were the train collided with a school bus, and ten children died. Since then, it is said these children haunt those tracks, protecting anybody else from getting hurt. People claim if they their car stops on the tracks, the children will move them off the track. Others have claimed to hear children’s voices and laughter.
El Silbon/The Whistler
In Venezuela, The Whistler is the harbinger of death. Legend has it that a spoiled brat demanded that his father hunt a deer for him, but when the father does not find a deer, the son kills him, cutting out his heart and liver. He then had his mom cook them for dinner. When his mom learns the truth about what happened, tortures her son with the help of the grandfather, and curses the son, transforming him into a thin ghost with long limbs. He wanders around carrying a bag of bones from his victims, whilst whistling a tune. A vicious dog always follows him, nipping at his heels. He is said to punish cheaters and drunks by removing their belly buttons and sucking out the alcohol.
In Dominican Republic, it is said that a woman with long hair that covers her naked body lures men with her beauty and sensuality in order to either kill and eat them or trap them forever. She is said to be a demon living in deep caves. Her most famous trait is her backward facing feet, which help to confuse her trackers.
The Ghost of Anne Powell
Though there are many versions of Anne Powell’s death, all of them talk about her heartbreak and subsequent suicide by throwing herself into the bricks below the 17 Hundred 90 Inn and Restaurant in Savannah. Her room was located on the second floor, room 204, which is where her spirit is usually present. Guests who wish to stay in that room were made to sign a waiver in case they decided to leave in the middle of the night. Anne has been known to sit in chairs, fold people’s clothes, move things around, and yanks off the covers from guests early in the morning. She does not like paranormal investigators.
Three-Legged Dog Ghost
In Maine, a three-legged husky with a light glow appears around midnight in Loon Pond. It’s not clear why he always appears there, but some believe that is where he lost his fourth leg.
